Start Of My Xmas Break?

So why the question mark in the title? Well let me tell you why. Today was supposed to be my first day of my x-mas break. Only returning to work Jan 3rd. I was so excited for the break because my plan was to hit the gym like it’s going out of style. Two things happened.

1) I woke up with a nasty migraine. It is now 710pm and I still have it.
2) I got called back into work to deal with some sensitive customer related issues. Full day.

So ya, great start!!

Monday Motivation Episode I

I spent the weekend making sure that the heat pad was working overtime and doing its magic.. I tended to my groin injury and the effort paid off. Today I returned to the gym. When I got to the gym though I realized I forgot my lock. Got back in the car, drove home and when I got there could have called it a day but I DIDN’T !!! MOTIVATION people! Lol.. Returned to the gym and successfully did 1hr15mins of cardio. As you know Monday is my strictly cardio day. It’s too soon to tell but right now there doesn’t seem to be any signs of trouble with the groin. We shall see as the night progresses and of course tomorrow morning!

The Week That Wasn’t !

Yes I am still here and yes I an still going strong. Fairly strong. The gym routine has been pretty consistent and I like what I am seeing.. even if slow, the results are coming. So the plan this week was to write a ‘Motivational Monday’ post. You see, after months of saying that I needed to add a weekend day to my work out routine, it finally happened this past weekend. After dropping my daughter off at soccer practice I went to kill two hours at the gym. Why be around folks u don’t want to be around when u could be working on yourself?? Am I right? Anyway – the two hours practically flew by. I felt energized. Did a circuit for 1.5hrs, ending off with 30mins cardio. The circuit was nothing out of the ordinary. Anyway, took sunday off. On Monday I woke up with some pain in my thigh area. It wasn’t that ‘good pain’ you get after working out. It felt problematic but I went to the gym Monday and Tuesday nonetheless. You know. Because. By Wednesday, the pain got progressively worse. Thursday I had a difficult time sleeping as it was painful every time I moved. Today is the worse and while I thought the pain was in my thigh, it appears the actual pain is really coming from my groin. I have been feeling it more than ever today. It’s very uncomfortable every time I get up after having been sitting for a while. I guess it’s time to ice and heat!!! I will take this weekend off as well but plan to return to the gym on Monday. Let’s hope.
Anyway on a side note I decided to purchase the following:

I had seen some videos on it and as well some reviews and decided to give it a try. I was a little nervous about the taste. I mean, 100% real sweet potato, yams, oats and fruit.. how can that taste good? You know what? It does! I love it. I think I may actually do a review after I finish it. I have also decided that I need to bring down by a huge degree the amount of supplement products I am buying. I mean look at this?

I think I will whittle it down to protein, this ‘Real Food’ and the fitjoys… oh and this too…

This stuff tastes so good and is also a great source of protein as well. Maybe I will review this product as well.

Still Going Strong(ish)

It’s been a while since I last posted but I am in fact still going strong at the gym pretty regularly. A while back I changed my routine. You gotta mix it up, right? Basically I do 1.5hrs of cardio Monday and Friday and tuesday-thursday weights. The plan is now to throw in a weekend day. This weekend deal was supposed to be part of the original plan but it has not worked out yet. So ideally I would like to go both days but at this point I will settle for one. I am also thinking about stepping up my leg game by actually working out legs on my cardio day. My thought is to do 1hr cardio and 30 mins legs. This will be in addition to leg day during my weights assigned days.. so ya a boost to the leg workout. I will give it a go starting this week and see where it takes me.

Chicken Legs v. Chicken Arms

Every gym in the world has atleast one… there’s no escaping it…

That guy that works out his upper body but completely neglects his legs. Thankfully, I am not one of them :).. Anyway, this affliction has existed for many centuries 😉 but I am seeing a new trend nowadays. Women’s obsession with working out their lower half in order to build that Kim K booty.

It’s all ass, all the time! I go to the gym to work out but I do also people watch and it’s amazing how, for today’s woman, it’s all about working out the butt. It’s also about checking their butt out in the mirror A LOT.. so in fact women are no different than the men in the ‘checking ourselves out’ department ! Lol
Anyway don’t get me wrong I am not complaining. I was into asses way before they became all the rage and the ‘belfie’ was a thing.

Italy: I Survived!

It’s been a few weeks now since our trip to Italy… you can check out my post here: https://capparelli.ca/2016/08/11/italy-12-days-of-awesome/ to read about it from a tourist’s point of view.

I have, for some time now, been trying to shed 10lbs. It’s been a struggle. Yes, the struggle is real. Three weeks before our trip to Italy I changed gym. I felt I over stayed my welcome where I was at and needed a change. I also thought the change of scenery would motivate me. It actually did. I was however dillusional in thinking 3 weeks was enough time to shed the weight. It wasn’t. I basically lost 2lbs. I found myself being stressed over that result. Here I am heading to Italy for close to 2 weeks where i’d no doubt be eating and eating and eating my way through it and all I lost was 2lbs! Anyway in this dillusional state I was in I also thought I would be training while in italy. Uh. Right. That didn’t happen. Not even 2 days in and I was in complete vacation mode!
So how did I survive it? I loved every minute of our time in Italy. By survive I mean on the weight gain side of it. I survived because I came home weighing the same as I left. One plan I had was to weigh myself every day while there but oddly enough I could not find a scale anywhere while in Sorrento, Capri and Amaflie. No wonder Italians look so relaxed. Noone weighs or cares to weigh themselves. Maybe that was a good thing. I basically gave up looking until we got to Rome and found a scale in the gym room.
The key to my success was that I was able to control what I ate and when. Sounds simple, right? I didn’t hold back though on how much I ate. Look, I was on vacation so ya I friggin ate!!! Added to that was that we walked an insane amount. We basically walked every where. The only time I hit a gray area was when I went to visit family down south. While there we stayed with a cousin who was such an amazing hostess. And to no surprise an amazing cook. Here’s the issue we hit while there. They are accustomed to eating late. What is interesting is that they are not big on breakfast but dinner yes. Dinner always involves an amazing spread. However, dinner was always 8pm or later. Sound. The. Alarm. Wow. I was beside myself in panic (internally of course). What to do though? I mean we are a guest in someone’s home so you go by their rules. Simple. Anyway what’s important is that I came out of it unscathed. We were down south for three days and I think that also helped. Lol. And again I also attribute it to the amount of walking we did. On the plus side as well I think my calves grew a full size!

Having been back regularly to the gym now I am back on the mission to shed the 10lbs. I have also decided that it’s a waste to weigh myself every day so I won’t. Maybe weekly or every two weeks. I also need to improve on my eating habit. My breakfast lately has been lackluster. That’s the first thing that needs fixing. Anyway.. it will continue to be a work in progress.

Tonight we leave for Italy… 10 days.. considering the travel it’s a little tight but heck why not? My mom has been there now since early June so we figured surprise her. With everything going on, this week has been a lousy gym week and there is no time for it today as well.. go figure.. serenity now!!! It’s actually what I am hoping for while it Italy; serenity.. I honestly can’t see myself doing any gym while there outside of a lot of walking and maybe some early jogging.. I have no choice.. the food I will eat especially when we hit the south… RUN David RUN !!! The goal to getting to my target weight has been a struggle… the pattern of my weigh ins are odd yet seem to follow the same pattern.. up… as I hit mid late week… downish… then weekend back up. Annoying… serenity now!!!

Love it when u unintentionally press submit wayyy before you intended to.

Anywayyyy so last weekend I went to our local Popeyes to get some creatine and while there decided I wanted to get some peanut butter… I was suggested the following:

Interestingly enough when she was selling me on it she told me ‘you need to be careful though ‘. I asked why.. she said that I need to have will power because it’s very addictive.. she was right. It’s pretty delicious. I love it. The texture is obviously different then the retail store bought one so if you plan to actually put it on bread don’t even bother if it’s not toasted. Because I try to avoid bread as much as possible I simply have one tablespoon in the morning… it’s a nice heaping tablespoon.. now don’t go trying to jam the entire spoonful all in your mouth at once. Trust me, u’ll have a difficult time prying open your mouth… and this ain’t no cinnamon challenge! A bit at a time savoring it is how its done. I am already almost out !

Levelling Up On Anxiety

I am not much of a gamer but since Pokémon Go is all the rage now I figured use a gamer terminology… a few weeks ago I was happy about my modest progress in my weight loss goal… now not so much.. it isn’t going as quickly as I thought. I think I am being naive. The anxiety it brings is that our vacation Is fast approaching. To boot we made a complete 180 on where we are going. Original plan was to hit the west coast; LA, San Francisco, San Diego etc… that all changed when I got the quote for how much it would cost the four of us. We are now heading to ITALY.. yup going across the pond will cost us much less than hitting the US of A!!! So now I am going from one end of the world that is the meca of beautiful people and bodies… to the other end (sort of) which is one of the European versions. And lest we forget, we are talking about ITALY soooo FOOD!!! Help me Jesus!
It has become clear that I have to pick up my cardio game in the next couple weeks and in a positive twist of faith it actually started last week. I was car-less for the entire week so I had my wife taxi me to and from work. Once home I changed into my gym wear and walked to and from @Buzzfitgym. The walk is 20mins each way. I also continued my cardio for an additional 1hr while at the gym. Even though I got my car back on the weekend, as long as the weather behaves, I will continue to walk to and from the gym. I think I will also devote a couple days/week solely to cardio rather than mix it up with my training. My typical pattern has been 1 hour cardio followed by weights and finishing off with abs workout.
